The Friends of St John’s, North Bovey

The Friends of St John’s, North Bovey, was established in 2006.  This was the result of the quinquennial report in 2005 which stated that the roof would shortly need to be completely renewed.  No ready funds were available and so this fund-raising charity was formed.

The main aim of The Friends is to raise funds to help with the restoration, preservation, repair and maintenance of the fabric of the church, which dates back to the eleventh century.

The Friends is run by a small committee, the Chairman of which is Wendy Keesom, the Secretary Bob Small and the Treasurer Kevin Grist.  There are five other committee members and a representative from the PCC.  It is, after all, the PCC which decides what work needs doing and which then approaches The Friends for a contribution towards funding the project.

The Friends run several fund-raising events during the year, all of which are great fun and well supported.  You can help by attending these – details of which appear in the benefice magazine IN TOUCH – and are also well advertised in North Bovey, Moretonhampstead and the surrounding villages.

We do have a membership scheme with many categories – from individual annual membership to family, corporate or life membership.  Cost of membership starts at £15.00 and all details and forms can be obtained from our Treasurer Kevin Grist at kevjean@gmail.com.

Our AGM this year is on Wednesday, 12th February at 7.30 pm in North Bovey Parish Hall.
We also have a guest speaker and this year it is Liz Gavrilenko of Bread by Liz fame!  You are most welcome to attend and see what we are about!

For any other information, please contact me or one of the committee.  We would love to hear from you.
