The Friends of St John’s, North Bovey, was established in 2006 in consequence of the quinquennial report in 2005 which stated that the roof would shortly need to be completely renewed. No ready funds were available and so this fund-raising charity was formed.
The main aim of The Friends is to raise funds to help with the restoration, preservation, repair and maintenance of the fabric of St John the Baptist Church, North Bovey, and its curtilage, which dates back to the eleventh century.
The Friends is run by a small committee, including a representative from the PCC. It is, after all, the PCC which decides what work needs doing, approaching The Friends for a contribution towards funding a project.
The Friends run several fund-raising events during the year, all of which are great fun and well supported. We also aim to raise awareness of the importance of such a key building in our community, which benefits all parishioners, whether or not they attend Christian worship services, community events such as Remembrance Day, North Bovey Fair or national celebrations, or just to enjoy the peace and tranquillity of the building, which is open throughout the day for quiet reflection.
We do have a membership scheme with many categories – from individual annual membership to family, corporate or life membership. Cost of membership starts at £15.
